Introduction
Essay on internet – The internet is a worldwide, Publicly accessible interconnected group of computer networks that transmit data using the standard internet protocol (IP).
It is actually a ” network of networks”. It may consist of millions of smaller domestic, academic, business, and government networks.
Each of these smaller networks might connect hundreds or thousands of computers. Information and services, such as electronic mail, online chat, file transfer, and most importantly, the worldwide web (WWW) are facilities provided by the internet.
Internet History
In 1969, ARPANET was initially started as a venture to connect computers at U. S Defense and various U. S universities. In the 1980s NSFnet was started to make a high capacity backbone network to be used strictly for academic and engineering research. In1980’s many private networks were also built to cater to commercial activities and services.
By the mid-1990s the popularity of the internet grew with the launch of new web browsers from Microsoft and Netscape. In the 1900’s the internetworking of ARPANET, NSFnet and the private networks resulted on the internet.
Working of the Internet
The internet is a network of networks. All computers are not directly connected to the Internet. Individual computers are connected to small networks. These small networks are connected to bigger networks. Ultimately these big networks are connected to high-speed internet Backbones through special network devices called Gateways. A Gateway is a special network device used to connect totally dissimilar networks.
An Internet backbone is a central high-speed trunk of connections of the Internet. It consists of an extremely large group of interconnected individual domestic, academic, business, and government networks. An interconnecting device called a router transmits data between two or more networks by determining the best path for them.
Internet Requirements
Normally you would have used computers in your home, Internet cafes, or your school computer laboratory. Both your school and the internet Cafe have their own network connected to the internet. So you would just go there and start working. Those of you who dial-up connections at home will realize that you have to get connected through an internet service provider like Jio or Airtel.
First of all, you have to look out for an ISP on your own and get an internet connection. The basic requirements for establishing an internet connection are computer system, Modem, Telephone or cable connection, Internet service provider (ISP) connection, Internet access software, internet application software.
Connecting to the internet
If you have the necessary requirements to connect to the internet, you can set up an internet connection by yourself. There are three methods to connect to the internet.

- Broadband connection
- Wi-Fi connection
